The Mirna River – The longest river on the Istrian peninsula, the Mirna River, flows at the bottom of a hilly and richly vegetated hill. Almost 53 kilometers long. Its source is in Kotli, near Hum, and it flows into the Adriatic Sea near Novigrad. Mirna was used for sailing long before the Roman conquest of Istria. It was navigable from Antenal on the sea coast all the way to Fontana at the foot of Buzet. Ships up to 100 meters long sailed along its lower course. With the reduction of the river bed, there was a need for a completely new artificial bed, and the old bed is almost completely drying up.
